WHHE SG Meet-N-Greet 2016/17~Summary

WHHE's Annual Meet-N-Greet/Open House Event (2016/17), designed to be both an informative and fun event, was a huge success! Both current members and non-members attended this come-and-go event 7:00-8:30 PM at Encourager Church on Thursday, August 4th.

Attendees had the opportunity to connect with the WHHE Support Group Leadership Team, WHHE Board, WHHE Teen Group Adult and Student Council Leaders, WHHE SG Volunteers, and WHHE SG member families, and explore what our intimate support group has to offer homeschooling families. In addition to making connections within WHHE, those in attendance were also able to visit with a number of homeschool-friendly organizations and businesses. Casual seating areas were provided and families were encouraged to support the WHHE Teen Group by purchasing refreshments to enjoy while visiting with other homeschooling families in attendance.

In addition to WHHE Support Group and WHHE Teen Group, the organizations listed below were  available at this year's event:

Ballet Classes with Erica Wetherell~Erica is offering ballet classes both in Houston and Katy. She is a former dancer with the Houston Ballet and is certified in American Ballet Theatre's training curriculum. Ballroom Dance Lessons~John Williamson offers ballroom dance classes at local churches. He can be contacted via email at johnwilliamson77@att.net

Civil Air Patrol~Civil Air Patrol Cadet Programs provides young men and women, ages 12-21, with a safe and motivating environment in which to grow and explore opportunities in the military and aviation industries. CAP presents an alternative life style to drugs and teenage violence, thus giving thousands of young people the opportunity to embrace the leadership roles of the 21st century with confidence and determination. Thunderbird Squadron has a long tradition of excellence among CAP in Texas as well as the national level and is currently meeting at the BridgePoint Bible Church. www.tx179.org

College Out of the Box~Homeschooling mom, Renee LoDolce's book sharing how your JrHigh or High School age student can begin earning college credits while completing high school credits and graduate from college debt free. HHSEP (Houston Home School Educational Program)~HHSEP is committed to providing a Christian school experience for homeschooled children Pre-K thru 8th grade. We are passionate about partnering with parents to educate the next generation or world-changers. ycmercado@hhsep.com

Instruments of Praise~Instruments of Praise, homeschool band and orchestra, has been serving homeschool families in the Greater Houston area since 1995. Directed by Paul Sommer, these bands and orchestras are known for their excellence in performance and are given a number of opportunities to minister each year.

Joyful Sound Choir~Joyful Sound! is a thriving performing arts organization specifically for Houston area homeschoolers. We've been teaching, performing, singing, dancing and serving throughout Houston and the United States for over 20 years. Joyful Sound began, and continues today, with the same two-fold purpose.......train and develop the God given talents of students for musical excellence while nurturing and molding those talents to serve others and bless all who hear and see them perform. We seek to ignite a passion in students of all ages to discover, discipline, train and use their God given talents while making a difference in the generation to whom they have been given.

Music Instruction with Robert Dierdorf~Robert offers Private Voice and Piano Instructor, Accompanist, and AP Music Theory Coach. He holds both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees from Indiana University School of Music and post-graduate study at University of Texas at Austin. One Day Academy~Partners with families, teachers, and churches to provide convenient one-day-per-week classes taught by degreed, professional instructors taught in a safe, Christian setting. OneDayAcademy@gmail.com

PREP (Providing Resources in Education with Parents)~Our mission is to bring parents and teachers together by offering excellence-driven, Christ-centered classes for homeschooling families. Parents choose only those classes that are right for your student. PREP offers high school, junior high, and elementary level classes.

Sound Foundation Academy~The mission of the Sound Foundation Academy is to offer the same opportunities for music education and performances found in public schools to home schooled students in Katy, Sugar Land, and Columbus. Sound Foundation Academy offers a homeschool band program, and elementary music program, summer music camp, as well as private music instruction.

Texas Christian School~Texas Christian School was established as a college preparatory school with an advanced curriculum that would challenge eager minds, based on a character development program that would nurture the individual. In addition to offering a full private school, TCS offers homeschooled students the opportunity to play a variety of sports as well as take academic classes "a la carte."

Worldview and You~Houston Area Worldview Classes taught by Jonathan Swirsky. "Worldview and You" is a four year curriculum designed to train up champions for Christ through the use of worldview education in the context of history, literature, and humanities. The WHHE Support Group added a little extra excitement to the evening with several drawings...new member drawing, early bird renewal member drawing, member renewal drawing, and Meet-N-Greet attendee drawings...prizes included Family Movie Night~AMC movie gift card, Mardel gift card, and several Starbucks gifts cards.
